Colombia may still tend to get a bad rap internationally- unsafe, full of drugs, warlords fighting in the streets- but that must come from those that haven’t been there in the past 10-15 years. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Colombian government has done a REMARKABLE job in cleaning up the country after the Drug Wars of the 80’s and 90’s, and today, it is a beautiful, modern, SAFE place for travelers of all types. A strong colonial history has shaped much of Colombia’s past, and today the country strives to offer travelers all that they could possibly hope for, and much more. Historical cities, forgotten ruins, gorgeous beaches, dense jungles, and some of the best coffee on Earth... Colombia- one of BackpackU’s favorite countries in all of South America.
